1950s

I think about the boning and crinoline in a dress from this decade almost as scaffolding, holding a shape a tired body wouldn't have to hold on its own, while somewhere nearby a christening gown was stitched by someone with nothing but patience and a steady hand. I can still feel the fingers in a pair of kid leather gloves, and a beaded clutch keeps a kind of small percussion even now, years later. I look after each piece however it needs, then send it out from Melbourne.
