A soft pink cotton bodysuit with a small, solemn clown printed at the chest: party hat at a tilt, a ruff at her throat.
Rock Your Baby, the Sydney label, treats a babygrow like a band tee, commissioning an artist's print for each season and letting it land somewhere unexpected. The brand was founded in 2002 and quickly built a devoted following among parents who wanted their babies to look considered rather than generic. This pierrot is a little nostalgic, a little uncanny, and entirely wonderful. The kind of thing you keep even after the baby has grown out of it. This one is deadstock, still in its original state, the print as fresh and vivid as the day it was made.

Care
Turn inside out and wash cool to keep the pierrot's face bright. Dry on low or flat in the shade. Press around the print rather than over it.

Before it reaches you
Someone loved this before you did, and I try to honour that properly. Each piece is hand washed, or cleaned in the way that the fabric permits, then steamed until it softens and straightens and feels newly attended to. Wherever a button was missing, it has been replaced with a vintage one from my long-kept collection. Wherever a hem had given way, I fix it by hand. By the time it leaves this room it is genuinely clean, pressed, whole, and looked over one final time before I let myself believe it is ready. Not restored. Not made new. Just returned to a state where it can be loved again, by someone who was not there the first time.
The pierrot is a solemn clown, and solemn clowns are the trustworthy kind: this one has held her party hat at exactly that tilt for a decade and never once let it fall. Being deadstock, she has attended no parties yet and keeps every one of them still ahead of her, which is why her expression is patient rather than sad. Rock Your Baby prints a babygrow the way a band prints a tee, so the wearer is technically merchandise for a show that has not started. Keep her long after she is outgrown, because the solemn ones are the ones you are meant to keep.
